2 player chess

Two people, one device, one board. No account, no download, no setup.

How do I play 2 player chess online?

Open this page and take turns on the same device. White moves first. Pass the phone across, or take turns at the keyboard. The board enforces every rule automatically, so nobody has to remember whether that en passant capture was actually legal.

Because both players share one screen, there is nothing to set up and nobody to wait for. This is the fastest way to settle a game between two people sitting together, and it works equally well on a phone passed back and forth or a laptop on a table between you.

Useful controls

  • Flip turns the board around so the player on the move sees it from their own side.
  • Undo takes back the last move, for when someone moves before they have finished thinking.
  • Copy position (FEN) saves the current position as text, so you can pause a game and resume it later.
